KATERNIAGHAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
MAJOR PROBLEMS OF SANCTUARY:
1. SERIOUS MAN ANIMAL CONFLICT ZONE AT LEAST 5 TIGERS AND
15 LEOPARDS HAVE DIED AND ALSO SEVERAL PEOPLE KILLED BY BIG CATS.
2. HEAVY CATTLE GRAZING PRESSURE
3. POROUS INDO NEPAL BORDER ,HIGH POACHING AREA
4. HIGH FOREST GUARDS VACANIES.
5. MANY VILLAGES IN CRITICAL AREAS
6. ATLEAST 20 KMS OF RAILWAYS LINE PASSES THROUGH CENTRE OF THE FOREST
LEADING TO DEATH OF ATLEAST 2 TIGERS ,MORE THAN 25 CHEETALS AND
OTHER ANIMALS .
7. 40 SQ KMS AREA IS ILLEGALY OCCUPIED BY CENTRAL SEED FARM .
SOLUTIONS
1. DECLARE IT NATIONAL PARK TODAY AS IT STILL HAS 550 SQ KMS OF GOOD
FORESTS FOR LARGE MAMMALS.
2. ONLY FOREST TO HAVE 7 ENDANGERED ANIMALS---- TIGER,LEOPARD,RHINO,GHARIAL,GANGETIC DOLPHINS,WHITE BELLED VULTURE,MUGGERS.
3. ONLY PLACE IN INDIA WHERE DOLPHINS,GHARIALS,MUGGERS IN ONE PARTICULAR FORESTS.
4. CONFIRMED REPORTS OF BLACK PANTHER SIGHTING
5. CONNECTING AND SECURING CORRIDORS BETWEEN DUDHWA N.P IS MUST AND FOR LONG TERM CONNECTING WITH BARDIA N.P IN NEPAL IS URGENT.
6. INCREASING FOREST STAFF IS URGENTLY REQUIRED.
TIGER is a symbol of power and has attracted thousands of people with its mesmerizing features which cannot be compared with any living object. Its beauty n power in previous century had lead to its killing for sport and fun and presently it is suffering from its chinese lovers who want tiger's private part in there mouth as a source of power which they dnt get eating 1000 species as there delicacy.
It has been so badly hunted that only 1000 original wild tigers are left in india as compared to 1 lakh in begining of 1900 s.
Nature created tiger for its ecological role not as pets for americans(around 10000 tigers as pet in USA),which have no role ,no importance and r good for nothing.
tiger has long dreadful history which is very painful to describe in detail...
WHY TO CONSERVE.....
1.TIGER is predator which is responsible for food chain maintaince.....if u kill tiger u r denied of chocalate.
2. Over 600 rivers originate and flow from our 39 tiger reserves thus maintaining a continous water supply......water for mumbai comes from SGNP not from filthy arabian sea......water for nagpur comes from dam in pench and tadoba....
3. these tiger forests are oxygen releasers and traps tonnes of CO2 ......full grown tree trap atleast 10 ton of carbon.
4. These forests r source of timber and other wooden products........estimated value of CORBETT tiger reserve in case of its timber is around 5 lakh crores.
5.Needless to tell other important functions of forests.
6. why tiger why not butterflies or birds or any other mammals......because in name of tiger every other animal gets protected in same forest................ALAN RABINOWITZ once famously wrote i cannot ask a govt to declare a protected area in the name of insect or birds,but when i say TIGER everybody listens ....ALAN GOT 18000 SQ KMS OF TIGER FOREST DECLARED AS Hukawng Valley Tiger Reserve..which is largest tiger reserve in the world.....and in country of military ruled BURMA.
these r just few importance of tigers which must be told to every indian in his class 10 th course...not because tiger is our national animal.....because IF TIGER GO....WE GO
